Sega has closed one of its arcades after 28 years of operations.
After opening on July 21, 1993, the 9-story Sega Ikebukuro Gigo became a landmark. On September 20, the arcade will cease operations and close.
They made the official announcement via Twitter back in August and thanking patrons for their years of service.
They opened their doors 1 last for their patrons to enjoy the games and other activities inside, as they remember the good old days of having fun and forgetting the time pass.
After the countdown finished, The arcade’s manager climbed atop of a ladder to give a speech, recounting Sega Ikebukuro Gigo’s history. “I am the head manager of SEGA Ikebukuro Gigo. The location is closing due to the renewal of this building, we have not been defeated by the pandemic. If we could, we wanted to stay open and see your smiling faces every day, I really mean this but sadly, we have to close our doors. While this shop may disappear from Ikebukuro, we strongly believe that the culture of Arcades is here to stay that will be all from me today, now everyone get out of here before the cops show up!“ The manager jokingly added.
People gathered outside to say goodbye to the legendary game center at a ceremony Sega held that marks the end of its 28-year-run.
