Comiket 99 Postponed

The Comiket committee announced on Monday that the planned Comic Market (Comiket) 99 event is postponed.

The official statement explains the current situation and the reason for the cancellation. The statement explained that even after the state of emergency is lifted on March 21, conditional measures will be in place. And even after the measures are lifted, there will be restrictions in holding large events thus the staff decided to postpone the event.

The committee hopes to hold the event in winter but no definitive plans so far.

The official statement also asks event attendees and vendors to avoid sending inquiries regarding other events to avoid confusion.

Comiket 99 was planned to take place on May 2-4 with a limit of 10,000 participants per day unlike 200,000 daily participants in past Comiket events.

Last July 2020, The Comiket committee announced to move Comiket 99 event originally planned last winter to the Golden Week holidays in 2021 due to scheduling issues considering Tokyo Big Sight’s East Exhibition hall unavailability until fall 2021 due to the Olympics and the difficulty to implement preventive measures that restricted the exhibition hall’s maximum capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
