Looking for an otaku oasis without journeying to Japan? Aniporium may just have an answer for your creative cravings with an Akihabara analog that’s sure to appeal to anime fans. From the incandescent themes to the neon colors and stylings, the café will instantly make any otaku feel at home (see what I did there?)
Gorgeous anime prints, fantastic figures in glass displays, and even manga that you’re free to read make for a cozy atmosphere that’s a treat for the senses. There’s even a photo op area with an anime skyline and one where you’re your own anime figure with the tantalizing tagline “live your anime fantasy.”
The anime themes extend to the beverages that range from the fun and fanciful cotton candy-topped Moe-Moe Blue Lemonade, Nyan-Nyan Ube and Kyun-Kyun Strawberry to more traditional coffees, teas and frappes. You can also request add-ons like an extra shot, whip cream, choco chips or even cotton candy.
On this trip, we decided to go with a Dirty Matcha Frappe (P160), Moe-Moe Blue Lemonade (P95) and Kyun-Kyun Strawberry (P95.) The Dirty Matcha Frappe had an invigorating shot of espresso while being accompanied by the sweet taste that you would expect from a mocha drink, but the hint of matcha made it feel slightly exotic. The Moe-Moe Blue Lemonade was quite refreshing, but the best of the bunch was undoubtedly the Kyun-Kyun Strawberry which had a delicious strawberry, milk and yogurt flavor that made it stand out above the rest.
Aniporium Café’s bread menu also had some fascinating food choices. From these, we selected the Curry Pan (P90), Okonomiyaki Pan (P90) and Macaron Pan (P90.) The Curry Pan was a bit mild, but the savory flavor of curry shines through. The Okonomiyaki Pan is similar to a pizza bread except with Okinomiyaki ingredients. The Macaron Pan had an interesting texture but lacked a bit of the taste you’d associate with a macaron.
Overall, otaku of all ages owes it to themselves to have a taste of Aniporium Café. It has a nice selection of food and beverages at affordable prices with a comfortable and eye-catching ambiance. Best yet, you’re only a few feet away from a fantastic showroom of your favorite anime merch with even more, including discreetly sectioned-off adult fare, conveniently located on the floor above.
You can find Aniporium Cafe at 928 A. Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City across from Greenbelt 3 Makati. They’re open Tuesdays to Sundays from 8 am to 7 pm.
