What is Cosplay?

Cosplay, derived from the terms “costume” and “play,” means exactly that: people dressing up in costumes and engaging in roleplay of their favorite characters.

What is Cosplay Mania?

Cosplay Mania is the biggest cosplay-centric event of the year... and that’s no small boast. This is the convention where cosplay is the focus and not just one of the activities lined up. Cosplay Mania aims to put the spotlight on the Filipino cosplayer and celebrate the many positive aspects—the creativity, the resourcefulness, and the pageantry—inherent in this hobby.

That sounds interesting. When and where is this event going to be held?

Cosplay Mania will be held on September 13, 2009 (Sunday) at SM Megatrade Halls 2- 3. That’s in SM Megamall, Ortigas, Pasig City. The event will start at 10AM up to 9PM.

Is that right? Two Megatrade Halls?

Yes, due to insistent public demand (and the need for the organizers to move about and breathe as well), Cosplay Mania 2009 will be held in two Megatrade Halls! That means more booths, more activities, and more surprises!

Coolness! How do I get there?

If you’re taking a bus, take a Cubao bus from the South of EDSA or a Baclaran or LRT/Ayala bus from the North.

If you’re taking the MRT, get off at either Ortigas or Shaw Boulevard Stations. Megamall is just a few meters’ walk away.

If you’re taking a taxi, any Metro cab driver should know where it is. If they don’t, get off the taxi.

Last 2008, we had to pay an entrance fee. Is there one as well this year?

Entrance is P100 per person.  There are additional fees to other activities as follows:

• P50 for the Cosplay Workshop, which entitles you to all five workshops.
• P40 for the Cosplay Museum, which includes a special souvenir photo.
• P100 for the Mech Cafe, which includes an afternoon tea set.

What should I expect from the convention for 2009?

We have a lot of returning activities from last year, including:

• Cosplay catwalk, both individual and group cosplays
• Costume Building Contest
• Photo Opportunity Booths
• Workshops
• Sponsor booths

Is the cosplay competition open category? Can I cosplay as an anime character?

Is there a baggage counter and/or dressing room for cosplay participants?

Yes, we are working to ensure that cosplayers get a baggage counter and dressing rooms. However, the details are still to be worked out.

You had a Costume Building Contest last year. Is there going to be one again this year?

Of course!  Check out the Costume Building Contest rules.

I don’t want to join the cosplay catwalk, can I still go in costume?

Hey, we didn’t stop you last year. Why do you think we will stop you this year? However, only registered cosplayers are entitled to the use of the dressing rooms and baggage counter.

I own a shop/store and I want to join Cosplay Mania as a sponsor or exhibitor. Who should I contact?
