Ragnarok Cosplay Contest
General Mechanics, Rules and Procedure

 OVERVIEW

Ragnarok Cosplay Contest is a themed cosplay event with cosplay restricted to the characters from Ragnarok Online (various versions) and Manhwa.

REGISTRATION

Contest registration is only available online or on-site. Online registration will open on April 28, 2017 at 12.01am and will close on May 6, 2017 at 11.59pm. The following information must be submitted through a form below for online registrants:

  1. The competitor’s real name;
  2. The competitor’s stage name;
  3. The competitor’s working contact details (mobile phone AND email);
  4. The name of the character that the cosplayer is cosplaying;

For on-site contest registration, they must come on May 7, 2017 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM and accomplish a physical form with the following information:

  1. The competitor’s real name;
  2. The competitor’s stage name;
  3. The competitor’s working contact details (mobile phone AND email);
  4. The name of the character that the cosplayer is cosplaying as;

The information above must be truthful; falsifying any of the information will result in instant disqualification. All registration information will be kept in the strictest of confidence and other competitors will not be informed whether a particular competitor has entered the contest or not.

CONTEST MECHANICS

  1. The contest is open to all cosplayers between the ages of 6 years old until 60 year of age. Employees of Elite Global Sourcing, its third party agencies (Creative, Media, PR, Events), and their relatives up to the 2nd degree of consanguinity and affinity are not eligible to join the contest.
  2. This contest is a themed category, solo cosplay event – participants can cosplay any character from the Ragnarok Online games or Manhwa. Original Characters are not qualified.
  3. Interested cosplayers can register on the day from 10:00am until 2:00pm.
  4. Contestants under eighteen (18) years of age as of cosplay event date must have their parent/s and/or legal guardian/s sign the waiver/image release form which will be distributed at the event.
  5. Contestants are required to submit a reference picture of the character that they’ll be cosplaying upon registration. Guidelines for submitting reference pictures are found below. Contestants who do not provide a picture reference will be imposed a 10% penalty to the Accuracy Criteria (see below.)
  6. Contestants are allowed a maximum of one (1) minute to perform their skit on stage. Exceeding the time limit will result in a score penalty.
  7. Contestants are allowed a maximum of one (1) stage prop that they can use in their performance. This stage prop must be removed promptly after their performance and must not cause problems for the performance of the next contestant or damage any of the stage fixtures.
  8. Contestants are allowed a maximum of one (1) human prop who they can interact with. The human prop may be in costume, but must not be another competitor. If two contestants interact with one another, they may do so, but no human props will be allowed for either contestant.
  9. Contestants will not be allowed to submit their own video or music track. Instead, a pre-made background music will be used for all contestants.
  10. Fanservice (ie. yaoi, yuri, etc.) is allowed but should be “General Patronage”. Any kind of extreme kind of fanservice (ie. kissing, PDA, etc.) that is deemed inappropriate for minors are strictly prohibited. Keep in mind the event is a wholesome and a General Patronage event.
  11. Costumes that are too revealing (ie. exposes private parts) are prohibited. Scantily clad and/or sexy costumes are allowed but are not encouraged. Cosplay Organizers and the Cosplay.ph management team have the right to disqualify any participant on this ground.
  12. All kinds of costume props must be handled with utmost care and must not be harmful to his/her fellow cosplayers, event staff and event attendees. Any kind of sharp and/or bladed objects that will be used as costume props that could cut human flesh are strictly prohibited. Any kind of pyrotechnic equipment/s that will be used as costume props that could render damage to the venue and/or property is strictly prohibited.
  13. The Cosplay Organizers, Cosplay.ph Management Team, and its staff will not be held responsible for damage or injury resulting from mishandling and/or negligence of a cosplayer in his/her use of props/materials throughout the duration of the event.
  14. The Cosplay Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any cosplayer who ignores and/or violates any of the aforementioned guidelines.
  15. The judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
  16. Registration and participation to contest constitutes that the cosplayer gives the right and the authority to Cosplay.ph organizers/staff, its sponsors and authorized press media to take pictures and/or videos of registered cosplayers and will be the sole property of the organizers/staff, its sponsors and authorized press media to be used for future publications and/or advertising promotions.

PICTURE REFERENCE GUIDELINES

  1. All cosplay registrants need submit a printed colored full-body picture of the character that they will be cosplaying. Only official art or screenshot will be allowed. Photos of the actual cosplayer in his costume does not constitute a valid picture reference.
  1. Penalties may apply if the picture reference is insufficient or if no picture reference is submitted (see below under Judging Penalties.)
  1. All pictures must not go below 3×4 inches (wallet size) and must not go beyond 8.5×11 inches (short bond paper size).

JUDGING CRITERIA

The following are the criteria that the judges will be using to score the contestant’s costume and performance with the presence of a DTI representative.

Craftsmanship (30%): The overall quality of the costume’s construction including durability, level of difficulty and attention to detail.

Stage Performance (30%): The showmanship of the stage performance including the impact of the poses as well as the flashiness of their moves and fluidity of execution.

Accuracy (30%): How accurate the costume is to the original source material. This includes not only the costume but also the poses and moves of the contestant.

Audience Impact (10%): How favorably the crowd reacts to the costume and performance.

POINT PENALTIES

In addition to the judging scores, penalties will be imposed on the following rule infractions:

  1. Exceeding Time Limit (5% Infraction): For every one (1) minute or fraction thereof that the performance exceeds the time limit of one (1) minute, a 5% score deduction will be applied.
  2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct (10% Infraction): For actions that are demeaning to the other contestants or that incite conflict in the competition or the use of vulgarity on the audience, judges, event staff or other contestants, a 10% score deduction will be applied. If this unsportsmanlike conduct continues, it may result in disqualification and ejection from the venue grounds.
  3. Intentional Violation of Contest Rules (20% Infraction plus 1-Season Suspension): For proven cases of cheating, dishonesty and sabotage, a 20% score deduction will be applied. In addition, the offending contestant will be given a 1-Season Suspension where they will be unable to join the competition for the remainder of the competition as well as the next year’s competition.
  4. 1 Stage Prop Rule Violation (5% Infraction): For every one (1) prop in excess of the one (1) stage prop limit, a 5% score deduction will be applied.
  5. Incomplete Picture Reference (5% Infraction): If the picture reference is black and white or the picture is half-body or partially obscured so that details of the character cannot be seen.
  6. Missing Picture Reference (10% Infraction): If no picture reference is submitted.

The Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

AWARD CATEGORIES

1st Place = Php15,000
2nd Place = Php10,000
3rd Place = Php5,000

*Deadline to claim prizes is 60 days upon receipt of mail notification.
